The Data for Life 2024 contest encourages participants to present innovative ideas and IT solutions that contribute to Vietnam's digital transformation. From Sept. 22-29, experts will evaluate submissions and shortlist 30-40 entries for the preliminary round.
Co-organized by Hanoi University of Science and Technology and VnExpress, the contest seeks practical ideas and products that serve the digital transformation process, focusing on three main pillars: Digital Government, Digital Society, and Digital Economy.
According to the organizers, the past two months have seen over 100 AI-driven initiatives submitted across various sectors, including transportation, education, security, and the economy, from both domestic and international participants. Some contestants have already begun implementing their ideas with promising outcomes.
For example, the "Mai Trang Tri" team, comprised of overseas Vietnamese, submitted an "App and Web-Based Fire Prevention and Control Management System." Motivated by recent fire tragedies across the country, the team developed a platform to connect citizens, businesses, and fire safety authorities. The app aims to improve fire safety awareness and streamline the reporting and response to fire-related incidents.
Other notable entries focus on digital transformation solutions, such as the "Digital Police Notebook," "Population Data Dashboard," "Smart Navigation App for Emergency Vehicles," "Chatbot for Legal Advice," and "Traffic Violation Prediction Model."
A standout feature of this year's contest is the heavy integration of AI technology in many of the ideas, including AI-powered virtual livestreamer bots for e-commerce platforms, AI-assisted job search tools, AI virtual assistants for personalized public services, and AI applications in retail and digital banking.
Contestants also utilized cutting-edge technologies such as Java, C++, and Big Data. Most entries leveraged simulated population data, traffic accident data, and traffic camera data provided by the organizers, alongside data from various organizations, businesses, and publicly available sources.
The Data for Life 2024 contest aims to uncover and support the development of innovative IT solutions from young talents, contributing to the construction of a digital government, society, and economy.
The contest is structured into three rounds: the preliminary round (30-40 teams), the semi-final round (10 teams), and the final round, where the top five teams will be chosen. Teams must submit their entries online, including detailed descriptions of their ideas and products, outlining the rationale, functionality, key features, and practical outcomes.
The final round is scheduled for Nov. 26.
A total prize pool of VND390 million (US$15,380) will be awarded across the three rounds. The first prize is valued at $11,800, the second at $2,000, the third at $1,185, and a consolation prize at $395.
