Beside là giới từ chỉ vị trí, có nghĩa tương đương với "next to" (bên cạnh, kế bên).
Ex:
- There's a nightclub beside our house, so it's often really noisy at night.
- I have a small table beside my bed.
- The calculator is beside the notebook.
Lưu ý: Trường hợp đặc biệt:
Beside one's self: cảm xúc không thể kìm nén được

Besides là phó từ, có nghĩa ngoài ra, vả lại.
Ex:

- Besides Sarah and Joanna, there were no women at the meeting.
- I didn't eat anything at the restaurant because I wasn't hungry - and besides, I don't like Italian food.
