It's an annual ritual .... saying good bye to summer by taking in the sun over Labor Day weekend.
Here at San Diego's popular Pacific Beach, there's no shortage of fun over the holiday.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED BEACHGOER SAYING:
"There's no place like it, we probably come down here four times a summer."
(SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED BEACHGOER SAYING:
"The ocean, and the atmosphere, can't beat it."
But be careful.
As hundreds come out to enjoy the fruits of their labor, officials are saying strong rip currents well into Tuesday could put swimmers at risk.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED BEACHGOER SAYING:
"We moved to areas where we couldn't feel it so strongly."
A 'beach hazard warning' has been issued by the National Weather Service for the area, created by a southwest swell in the ocean.
In addition to strong currents, waves could be as high as 8 feet... good news for surfers, but be careful if you're inexperienced to the sport.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) SAN DIEGO FIRE RESCUE'S RICK STROBEL, SAYING:
"The rip currents will not pull you underwater and they will not pull you to Hawaii. The best thing to do is to try to remain calm, raise your hand, chances are we've already recognized you're in trouble and we're headed that way."
For now, things are smooth sailing at the beach, where many are enjoying a well-deserved break from work.
