Đề cử giải Tinh thần Độc lập lần thứ 23 được công bố hôm 27/11. Lễ trao giải sẽ được tổ chức vào 23/2/2008, một ngày trước khi diễn ra lễ trao giải Oscar.
Tinh thần Độc lập đang dần trở thành một giải thưởng uy tín của giới làm phim quốc tế, có mục đích tôn vinh những bộ phim kinh phí nhỏ (dưới 20 triệu USD) và phim phi thương mại.
