Following an anonymous threat made to commercial flights, an Air France plane was escorted by U.S. military fighter jets to New York on Monday.
U.S. authorities received an anonymous tip warning of a "chemical weapons threat" aboard Air France Flight 22, which was carrying 11 crew members and 165 passengers.
The U.S. Air Force scrambled two F-15 jets, which were sent to escort the Airbus A-330 into American airspace.
The flight was traveling from Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport and landed safely at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City Monday morning.
The flight was transported to a secure area and searched and cleared for explosives.
Details regarding the exact nature of the incident remain scarce, but a New York Daily News report, citing sources, called the anonymous tip a "crank call" and laid blame on a single man who reportedly made multiple untraceable calls to the Maryland State Police barracks warning of threats to several different flights.
